The definition for a Regional Mall will change to describe its evolving raison d’etre over the next few years in those countries that have enjoyed such goliaths. For as our lifestyle with it’s “NEEDS and WANTS’ becomes more defined, so will the Regional Mall. My personal definition is that a region is an area of land where one can easily travel from the outer perimeter to the core, shop, take refreshment and return to the start point within six hours. The new Regional Mall needs to be developed to cater for the overall catchment area but as time moves on and semi-rural areas become inhabited other more locally focused malls will begin to appear. The mall Designer and his clients should take care not to distance themselves from such a reality.
